Tick-borne diseases – grave consequences

Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and babesiosis are the most common diseases in dogs caused by ticks. Another one is also tick paralysis. Dogs and humans are exposed to ticks not only in woods, but also when walking on grass in urban environment or in their own backyards. The good news is that we can mostly prevent tick bites with effective insect repellents. It is important to choose protection that effectively repels parasites and is safe for the dog and its human family. Families with small children should be especially vigilant as products that repel fleas and ticks often contain pesticides such as flumethrin, imidacloprid, TCVP and others. These chemicals have been proved to present health risk for dogs and humans, are dangerous for the environment and should not come in contact with drinking water.

Act promptly

Even though we have appropriately protected ourselves against ticks, we should always carefully check ourselves, our family members and our dogs for tick as soon as we return home after spending a day outdoors. It is essential, for animals and for humans, that if a tick has chosen us as a host we remove it correctly as soon as
